The staff and Management of Imo State Library Board yesterday, paid a familiarization visit to Nigeria Newspoint where they sought to establish media partnership with the newspaper.
The Director General of the board, Dr Pauline Iwuagwu who led the visit, said that they came to identify with the media outfit with the purpose of collaboration in the area of publicity.
Dr Iwuagwu explained that most of the activities of the establishment are not well known to the public which she regreted, have led to low patronage from members of the public.
She expressed hope that partnering with the newspaper would help to propagate and publicize the activities of Imo Library.
Despite what many see as seeming low government attention to the agency, she said,
“We are doing whatever we can on ourselves to keep the board moving.
Part of it is the reason behind our visit to your office today, to seek for your help. We need your collaboration in terms of publicity.” Iwuagwu stated.
The director general hinted that the board would soon embark on capacity training programmes, mostly, for primary and secondary schools in Imo State, to bring back the culture of reading into the system.
Responding, the Publisher and Editor-in- Chief of the Nigeria Newspoint, Elder Lambert Ojukwu appreciated the management for coming to identify with the media outlet and promised to assist them in anyway he can in bringing the activities of the board to the public domain.
Ojukwu pointed out that Library serves as the preserver of intellectual property and public documents, but regretted that the establishment was not gaining adequate attention from the government that ought to project its activities.
Ojukwu maintained that a functional library would encourage reading culture among students and promote research programmes that help in solving some of the societal challenges.
The publisher, encouraged the establishment to be in touch with its retired directors inorder to tap from their wealth of experience necessary for keeping the board moving.
